What is the Discovery process?

What is the discovery process? Discovery and family law can take on several different forms. Initially, we're dealing with documents. What physical documents are presently in existence that we can request in order to, say, fill in gaps, get valuation of property, deal with what people's incomes may be. We're looking primarily for financial information when we're dealing with financial discovery, Discovery can also take on some other different forms. It may be depositions. A custody evaluation may be part of the discovery process. The basic tenant of discovery is we want to gather as much information as possible so we can be prepared either for negotiation, trial, settlement, conference. Whatever the eventual proceedings is, we want to discover as much information as possible.
