What happens if you die without a will?
What happens if you die without a will? In the state of Oregon, our legislature has created a system of interstate secession, which means your property will be passed down to the heirs, as our legislature have determined is appropriate. So we would start with the children of the deceased. There are no children. That would go down to the children's children. If there are no lineal descendants, then it would begin to go back up the family tree. And so on and so forth. So even if you die without a will, but you have children, the legislature has established the mechanism by which your children will be the ones to inherit your property after your death.
