What are the differences between joint and sole custody?
What's the difference between sole custody and joint custody here in Oregon? Sole custody allows the custodial parent to make major decisions for the minor child. Those generally include education, religious training, and elective surgery. Joint custody requires the two parents to basically consult with each other and agree on those decisions. Joint custody in Oregon only exists if both parties agree. If either party says, I do not want joint custody, the court must choose a custody parent to make those decisions.
